Peaches reworks “Fuck the Pain Away” for Hellraiser: Revival

    Why it matters

Pitchfork calls it the first official remix of the song; it is the first version made for a game. An NSFW music video is out, and the game releases October 8 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Rather than license the original track, Saber commissioned a new master from the artist, which gives the game an exclusive version and gives Peaches a new release of her best-known song.

    Why it matters

The track is performed by Jillian Ashcraft, with Dan Salvato and Kenji Mizuno credited, and the collaboration event runs through November 11. The remix does not currently appear to have a Spotify release and appears to be arcade-only for now. It is a compelling indie-to-arcade crossover: music from one of gaming’s best-known independent titles is being reworked specifically for a major Japanese rhythm-game platform.

    Why it matters

BanG Dream! confirms worldwide digital release from September 24 JST, with some services following from September 25. The track is part of the Our Notes rollout and is intended to appear in-game on the global server. It is another example of the increasingly porous relationship between games, anime franchises and global pop catalogs. Rather than treating licensed music as background content, BanG Dream! uses recognizable songs as material for its fictional and virtual bands, creating a new recording, performance and game experience around an existing global hit.
